The Bandhani Mughal Tulip Shirt : Ancient artistry meets modern form. Your piece of living Indian textile history
A Conversation Across Centuries
This piece is the centerpiece of our Heritage Shirts Collection, It represents a meticulous blend of two profound traditions: the ancient craft of Bandhani and the timeless elegance of the Mughal Tulip motif.
The exquisite, symmetrical design on the cuff and collar detail is the stylized Mughal Tulip. This motif became a dominant feature in Indian art after the Mughal period (16th-18th Century), inspired by Persian and Ottoman aesthetics.
The main body of the shirt is graced by a subtle, all-over pattern of minute dot, created by skilled artisans who pinch the fabric into thousands of tiny knots before dyeing. The resulting dots are a symbol of auspiciousness, vitality, and the patient “tying” (bandhna) of tradition.
It is a dialogue between the folk and the formal, making it an effortlessly elegant shirt that carries 5,000 years of textile history into the present day.
